Pastor’s Report

I want to start my report by saying thank you.  This year has been a year that in my personal life was unlike anything I have ever dealt with.  The grace and love that I have received as I dealt with and continue to deal with the death of my father was far greater than I could ever imagined.  This is an event that changed my life and my family in a big way and I am thankful that God has put me in a place that has cared for me and my family the way you have this past year.
2018 w as a year that held a lot of excitement.  This church community is alive with activity.  From our weekly worship to meetings of both our congregation and community groups.  A VBS that had the church overflowing with excitement. We have played host to a blood drive and an election.  We have celebrated together at baptisms and cried together at funerals.  We have expanded and welcomed many to our youth programing. Collected food and money for our local food shelf.  We have prepared for another mission trip to the village of La Huaca in Panama. All of this and much more have happened in this place because we gather together in community in the name of Jesus.  This is truly a gift!
I hope we can continue to focus on the question of who is my neighbor? This is the question posed to Jesus before he tells the story of the Good Samaritan. It is a question that leads Jesus to tell the story that we all probably know by heart about two people who leave a man in need and one who shows mercy that was in no way deserved.  This question is important because we as a people who have been given the gift of mercy by a God who redeems us even though we are sinners is not a message to keep bottled up inside but instead it is a gift to be lived out in our lives everyday.  And this question confronts us with our own sin very easily.  We don’t want to think of some people as our neighbor because we don’t like them or perhaps they don’t like us.  Maybe they do things we find unsavory, or they don’t agree with us on every issue.  But the reality is that we often fail to show the mercy and love showed to us because it is easy.  The question of who is my neighbor opens us to the world in front of our eyes and gives us that opportunity to be Christ for a world in need.
So who is my neighbor in Lakefield Minnesota? This is a question not for us to answer in the coming year but a question for us to live the answer.  It is a question that God works in and brings new life.  I’m excited for the gift of a new year to walk with you in this faith journey.
